Firestop vs Fire block
Yesterday we started the discussion about the difference between firestopping, fire proofing and fire blocking.
Today let’s talk about firestop.
When a building relies on passive fire protection there will be fire rated floors and walls that need to be connected with firestop joints. The service lines that make you comfortable in that building will run through the fire rated floors and walls and the holes need to be protected with firestop.
These solutions are not just red caulk in a hole.
They are listed systems that have been verified by a third party test lab and the need to be installed as part of a system.
Changing any element of that system can mean that you are not in compliance with the code.
Getting the firestop stuff right is critical to the level of life safety. Our construction industry is evolving in so many ways. New codes, new standard, new products… staying on top of these changes is the only way to reduce liability for your team.
If this is important to you, please attend training regularly because codes change, products change and if you want to be on your game you may want to know about these changes.
What are some of your favorite ways to develop your team, or yourself?
